April is Child Abuse Awareness Month

Child Abuse Awareness Month Activities

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and there are a variety of events and activities going on that we are very excited about!

April 6th we will be at a Lunch and Learn at Moraine Park Technical College giving a presentation on Child Abuse and Sexual Assault.

April 16th bring the kids and come join us for the Kids Share Fair at Heritage Mall from 9:30-noon.

April 18th, listen for us on Community Comment from 12:35-1:35 on WBEV/WXRO!

All month long there will be:

  • Blue Ribbon pins available for sale exclusively at Piggly Wiggly in Juneau, Juneau Public Library, Hartford Savings Bank in Juneau, and Punkin’ Patch!

  • Blankets to all the babies born in the month of April at hospitals in Dodge County.

  • Books on the subject of child abuse at Juneau Public Library

  • Community Chain Links and other activities sent to the schools and day cares throughout Dodge County asking staff and students to participate in making things with something each person will do to help keep a child safe.

No matter where you are from, no matter the size of the town or city, child abuse does happen in your area, let’s all work together to find ways to help keep children safe.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month - Join us in Denim Day

Take a stand against rape by joining PAVE in wearing denim on Wednesday, April 27th 2011 to work for a dollar donation to PAVE. National denim day is observed due to the following court case.

In 1992, an 18 year old in Italy was picked up by her driving instructor to begin a driving lesson. Soon after, the driving instructor raped her on the side of the road. She pressed charges and won her case. The instructor appealed, and the case went to the Italian High Court. In 1999, the court overturned the conviction with the member of the High Court declaring that since the victim wore tight jeans, the instructor could not have removed them himself, therefore the victim must have willingly participated.

Women of the Italian legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans. As the news spread, so did the protest. In 1999, the state of California established the first Denim Day in the United States. Please join us in support of Denim Day by wearing your denim and together we can take a stand against all sexual violence.

Please call PAVE at 920-887-3810 for more details about how to bring denim day to your workplace. Currently, Summit Credit Union in Beaver Dam is planning to participate with us.
